1. Check and setting bios & o/s power option from “Balanced” to “High Performance” Degraded overall performance on Windows Server 2008 R2

2. Kernel patch for Hyper-v:

The Hyper-V-related services cannot start on a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that has many processor cores and many PCI MSI-X devices

this will take ntoskrnl.sys to latest version 6.1.7600.20787

3. Computer intermittently performs poorly or stops responding when the Storport driver is used in Windows Server 2008 R2.

4. Windows 2008 R2 has some performance hotfixes that could be hurting us here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2297652

This fix contains:

An application stops responding, experiences low performance, or experiences high privileged CPU usage if many large I/O operations are performed in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976700

Poor performance occurs on a computer that has NUMA-based processors and that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 5. if a thread requests lots of memory that is within the first 4 GB of memory http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2155311

6. A computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 becomes unresponsive when you run a large application http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979149

7. CPU Drift:

Apply SP1 for windows 2008 R2.

We are having performance issues on one of our SharePoint 2010 server .This is a Windows Server 2008 R2 on Virtual environment.
Application keeps running smooth even with top user hits and search crawls.
But some times even with less than 40 % loads , we get around 100 % cpu usage.

Assuming this is not something custom code , but environmental / configuration issue , I have jotted down few of the top most errors .

Please help me point out the top most culprit of these :
